Our History

In 1997, Pete Hoste began working with legendary Chicago trial lawyer Tom Leahy, a recent President of the Illinois State Bar Association. Concentrating on medical malpractice, product liability and commercial vehicle cases, a string of successful verdicts and settlements followed.  The firm became known as Leahy & Hoste in 2002 and continued to consistently achieve outstanding client results.  Mike Alkaraki joined the firm in 2006, adding another talented trial lawyer to the team.  On two separate occasions the National Law Journal has recognized our attorneys as having achieved one of the largest or most significant jury verdicts in the United States.  In 2021, the law firm became known as Leahy Hoste Alkaraki, recognizing the pivotal role that Mike Alkaraki has played in continuing to help our clients and their families secure justice under the law.

Our Commitment

At LHA, our lawyers are committed to utilizing our resources and experience to compassionately represent each of our clients to the full extent of the law.  We understand that most of our clients have experienced tragic and life-altering events, and we take pride in helping our clients navigate the unfamiliar waters of litigation with knowledge, dignity and respect.  We take pride in helping our clients understand the process every step of the way.

How We Work

Many people who have suffered from a tragedy assume that they cannot afford an expensive high-powered law firm to represent them. We typically work on a contingency fee basis, meaning that our clients do not pay any fees unless they win. We know that our clients depend on us in times of great need, and we gladly accept that privilege and responsibility in helping our clients to rebuild their future.

We are here to help. CONTACT US to see if LHA is right for you.

At LHA, we take pride in the work that we do for our clients and their families. Here are some of the things that our clients have shared with us about their experiences:

“Thank you all so very much for everything you have done for our family during this time. We loved our mom so much.”

“Thank you for all your help during this unfortunate time for our family. Thank you for the care you have shown myself and my siblings.”

“I don’t think we ever told you enough that you were a savior to our family.”

“Your belief in our case and your hard work (and always being careful with our feelings) resulted in something that helped us achieve a sense of closure. It felt, because of you, that the world was turning in the right direction and there was some fairness in the world.”

“You do something for which you should be proud. Your skill set and your determination literally saved us. I want you and people in your office to remember that what you do doesn’t just help people, it literally changes their lives for the better.”

“Thank you, Pete. I’m not sure that (we) have the words to express our appreciation for everything you’ve done for us.”

“I feel like I can look back and tell him that we fought for him and that he was never forgotten. I feel like because we did not let it go, and more importantly because you were the only one who believed in us and never gave up fighting for us, that maybe we all helped a future baby receive a higher standard of care because of the recognition of this mistake and tragedy.”

“Thank you again for everything. It’s just so very hard for me to put anything into words. Thank you for what you’ve done for my children and I have them to hold me together and show me the positive.”

“I can sit (her) down one day and tell her that while she doesn’t have a brother because some people made a mistake, we have a friend named Pete who fought for our family and made sure the mistake was not forgotten.”

“We are so grateful for all of your work throughout these proceedings. Thank you for always keeping me informed of updates and developments as the case progressed. It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the end – thank you for being here with us from the beginning.”

“On behalf of (our) family, we sincerely appreciate all of your diligence and hard work in this case. I especially appreciate your empathy while speaking with my father-in-law yesterday.  He was quite nervous and you made him feel very much at ease.”

“We wanted to express our gratitude for all your hard work in securing a settlement on behalf of our son. We are relieved to have this behind us now and look forward to donating a portion of the settlement to help children in our community in our son’s name. Thank you for your time and diligence in working for our benefit. We are truly appreciative.”

“My husband and I just want to say thank you for all your hard work representing us. It was a favorable outcome largely due to your efforts. Please give our regards to your associates in the office.”

“We want to express our gratitude for your efforts and dedication to handling our son’s case. We are grateful to you and your firm for taking the stress of this case from us and speaking determinately on our son’s behalf.”

“On behalf of our family, I extend my sincerest gratitude for all of your hard work and advocacy throughout the course of our proceedings.  Thank you for your compassion, diligence and commitment to ensuring that those responsible during our mom’s hospitalization were held accountable.  We are also so fortunate to have met Tom Leahy and grateful that he took the time to reach out to our family after learning what happened to mom. She was an extraordinary and caring person.  Even in death, as a result this outcome of the case she is caring for our father and making certain that
he is comfortable for the rest of his life.  We appreciate all that you have done and will always be grateful for your work.”
