Peter D. Hoste has represented injured persons and their families in the State and Federal courts throughout Illinois during his entire legal career. In 1997, Mr. Hoste left another major personal injury firm and began working with Tom Leahy, a recent President of the Illinois State Bar Association. Concentrating on medical malpractice, product liability and commercial vehicle cases, a string of successful verdicts and settlements followed. Included in these was a nearly $3.5 million dollar verdict for a man who suffered a dropped foot as the result of back surgery, a $9 million verdict for the family of a woman who died in an emergency room of a blood clot, and a $6 million dollar settlement for the family of a pedestrian killed by a medical transport vehicle.
Most of Leahy & Hoste's cases are referred by other attorneys, reflecting our experience handling complicated situations combined with an unparalleled record of achievement.
In January, 2002, Mr. Hoste became a partner with Mr. Leahy and the firm became known as Leahy & Hoste. The new firm celebrated their partnership a few weeks later with a record setting $22.5 million dollar verdict for a man who suffered above the knee amputations of both of his legs after undergoing heart surgery. Several months later, Mr. Hoste gave opening statements during a trial on behalf of the family a security guard who was killed after being run over by a semi-tractor — this case later settled during the trial for the available insurance limits of $7.1 million. In January, 2004, Mr. Leahy and Mr. Hoste settled a case for $5 million during trial for the family of a man who died following shoulder surgery at a local university hospital. Less than a month later, Mr. Hoste gave the final rebuttal argument before a jury which awarded a $19.2 million verdict on behalf of the family of a tool and die maker who was struck and killed after a collision with a semi-tractor trailer.
Mr. Hoste is an active member of a variety of bar and professional associations. He has been appointed as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association's Tort Law Section Council, the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association's Board of Managers, Medical Negligence Committee, Young Lawyer's Committee and Membership Committee and the American Trial Lawyers Association's Board of Governors, Young Lawyer's Division. In 2003, Mr. Hoste was selected through a survey of all the lawyers in Illinois as part of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin's Leading Lawyers Network. He remains one of the youngest lawyers in Illinois to receive such an honor. In 2007, he was named one of 40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer publications.
Mr. Hoste received his undergraduate degree in Finance from Michigan State University prior to attending and graduating from the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.
